1. Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology is extremely common in the year 3042. Companies use nanobots for repairing and engineering weapons, producing everyday clothing, performing surgeries, and even in making Androids. The Masa-tech android company widely uses nanotechnology to construct the circuitry in modern Androids. 2. Legality/Use of Drugs
Amerika is the only country that still outlaws the use of 'mind altering substances' such as Marijuana and Heroine. Every other part of the planet can be found selling these products in supermarkets and at gas stations, even. The types of drugs come in company varieties as cigarettes did so long ago. Maruboro is now the leading Marijuana producer in Japan. Over a hundred new types of drugs have been created, some of them creating hallucinations and even rendering the user unconscious for quite some time. 3. Population Centers
After the world became densely overpopulated, people began to look to the ocean for more room. At first, man-made islands were constructed to solve the issue. This idea quickly lost its popularity, however, as more and more of the people discovered that living on these islands just provided larger problems. Instead, underwater towns and cities were developed, usually stationed near Earth's great metropolises--for convenience reasons, of course. They can hold thousands of people and are located underneath large glass domes, manufactured to withstand the intense pressure of the sea.
Cities in the air are a much different thing. The first town to take flight was of Russian idea and structure and is held up by immobile rockets. They keep the heavy city in the air and at an unmoving height. There are many people at work every day and night who supply the fuel for these cities.
4. Weaponry
Weapons have changed dramatically. Scythes, staves, and swords were brought back and are actually standard issue in the military. These are very effective as they're now made of Corundum, the second strongest (and most versatile) mineral, right after Diamond.
Guns are much different. They are usually quite compact, yet have special modifications that make them extremely deadly. Poison and shatter tip bullets are very common. The shatter tips are only sold on the black market, however, as they create a bloody mess of anyone they come into contact with. The tip explodes on impact, sending small pieces of shrapnel into the blood stream and traveling through the body. They will end up in the heart if immediate medical attention is not at hand. Plasma pistols/rifles can only be bought illegally unless you are a soldier for the gov't. Most countries strictly forbid these weapons as they are very dangerous.
Thermonuclear missiles (as well as several new, and more dangerous weapons) are only possessed by the governments, of course, and have been used countless times as war broke out between the many nations and countries. In fact, the city of Beijing is both in ruin and in quarantine, and has been for over a hundred years. Chemical and biological weapons are still illegal except in the military. 5. Space Travel
Russia is still working in space, and currently has over five hundred running space stations in orbit around the Earth and the moon. Amerika, however, just recently placed its first city on the moon. Satellites and the like can be found in surplus amounts around the Earth. No other planets have been reached, yet.
